HUVEC and Fibroblast Growth Summary

Thus far three HUVEC and two L13T3 growth tests have been conducted on substrates including glass,pnc-Si, tissue culture plastic, and untreated plastic. Only one test with untreated plastic has been run for each cell type. Cells on Si samples are not on the slits but rather on substrate surrounding.

It seems that HUVEC proliferate more quickly on Si than on glass or treated plastic, however the opposite is the case for fibroblasts. There could be myriad of reasons why HUVEC grow better on Si but as of now we haven’t pinpointed anything, as Jim suggested this difference may be accounted for by the difference in topology between the various materials. I also am unsure of the accuracy of the untreated plastic results; once we receive more treated/untreated cover slips (they are on back order) we will run more tests with them. We also plan on using starved cells as a control in the future.
