New Cartridge from INT

INT received the first samples of their new cartridge design.  The following slides were given to us by INT to provide some detail.

The shorter cylinder on the left that is called the “glass bead pod” needs on filter fixed to the bottom.  The taller cylinder is the “desalting chamber” and will require a filter at both ends.  There is a bevel on one side of each of the cylinders (visible on the top of the desalting chamber) and its role is currently unclear.

INT wants ~1 µm and ~80 nm pore sizes on the different filters.  If we have any materials with these sizes available, we will do some tests to see how well the filters will adhere to the cylinders using a basic 5 min epoxy.  If not, the next step will be to design a new mask for these specific shapes.
