SEPCON 1.9?

SEPCON1.9?
SEPCON1.9?

We’ve been doing a lot of work characterizing SEPCON performance in forward and reverse configuration.  One lesson we’ve learned is that a vertical orientation might be best for high particle concentrations.  I discussed this with Greg and he graciously came up with first prototype design.  Greg will put is 3D printing experience to work on a prototype or two so that we can find out if this is even feasible.

With the current design, Greg will print a solid cap (bottom bucket in previous iteration) and we will try drilling a small hole near the top to wet the filtrate side of the membrane.  This way we might be able to use a square gasket on both sides of the chip.

Jim has already pointed out that we will have significant dead volume with this design because the exit port on the filtrate side will be at the top of the chip and so once the reservoir reaches the top of the chip the pressures will equalize and flow will cease.  We could minimize this by making the reservoir volume next to the chip as small as possible.

What else is wrong?
