Diffusion Cell
I ran a few tests with rhodamine to see if the fluorescence will transfer across the cell. The problem I keep having is that the stir cell set-up is very sensitive. If the wing nuts are tightened too much the membrane will break. But if they are too loose the liquids will leak out. Luckily I had a successful trial today. The pictures are posted below.
I’m doing one more rhodamine test today. Hopefully I can get both membranes to stay intact. Tomorrow I’ll try testing the nanoparticles.
Above is the rhodamine sample.
Water sample w/rhodamine present
This trial worked because it showed that the rhodamine diffused through the membrane and mixed with the de-ionized water. The next step is to try it with large particles.
Here is a second test showing a side by side comparison in DIC and RHOD mode:
water in DIC mode
water in RHOD mode
Rhodamine droplet in DIC mode
Rhodamine droplet in RHOD mode
*Note it the stir cell was leaking when I took it apart so some contamination could have leaked into the water channel around the o-rings for the second test.
