Membrane in Sodium Chloride solution

W407 (non treated) in different NaCl salt concentrations (benchtop) :

At t=0

In order (from l-r)
1. 0.5 M NaCl
2. 1.0 M NaCl
3. 2.0 M NaCl

At t=24 hrs.

At t=53 hrs.

At t=6 hrs and t=12 hrs the chips were not found to be discolored.
This was carried out to test the stability of the membranes in different salt conc, in order to carry out some desalting experiments.

  1. OK. So the bare membranes are no good for desalting by dialysis at the levels one might encounter with ‘salted out’ protein preps.

Lets hope some of these new treatments help.
