NRG Web Dev. Update #1
- Sharing internal NRG News. If you have a note or news item to share with the NRG you can send an e-mail to news@bbe.23a.myftpupload.com.
- You have to send from an e-mail address that is registered to your NRG user account.
- This does not get posted to our public ticker on the front page (that is done via Twitter).
- The subject line becomes the post title.
- Turn off your signature in your e-mail before sending.
- Of course you can also hop on the blog and construct a post the old fashioned way. Be sure to click the ‘news’ category.
- I posted examples about the NextStage home dialysis system and a lung-on-a-chip video.
- UR-specific news. If you are working in Goergen and have a post that is lab-specific, send your e-mail to URNews@bbe.23a.myftpupload.com.
- This post will only be visible to folks working at UR.
- I posted an example about canceling last Thursday’s individual meetings in my office.
- Sharing Journal Articles. If you come across an interesting article you can share by sending an e-mail to journalclub@bbe.23a.myftpupload.com. Again the subject line becomes the post title and please turn off your signature.
- Old Journal Club Wiki -> New NRG Library
- The old wiki called Journal Club has served as a repository of journal articles organized by topics for years – more like a library than a journal club. So I changed the Wiki name to Library.
- Blog postings to the journalclub category will automatically show up under the ‘mail’ tab of the Library wiki.
- I’m going to ask that we each serve as ‘curators’ of our own place on the Library. When you post an article, go to the wiki and file it someplace neatly.
- Blog Categories. From now on, the blog ‘category’ classifies the type of post – not the details of its content.
- Some types of categories are: 1) data, 2) news, 3) journalclub, 4) protocols.
- The default category is ‘data.’
- Note that postings sent by e-mail are automatically filed in the correct categories.
- There is a pull down menu on the side that allows you to view only the posts in a particular category.
- Tags. For years we confused ‘categories’ and ‘tags.’ ‘Tags’ are keywords that will help other to find your post when searching. Use as many as you wish.
- Search by author. One of the primary ways we search for blog material is by authors. This option is now a drop down menu on the right hand side of the blog.
- Blog Subscriptions. You can subscribe to the blog using one of the panels on the right hand side. This will alert you by e-mail to a new post or to any comments made on one of your posts.
