It’s not just that dimers can survive the SDS, it’s that there’s “an equilibrium between monomeric and dimeric cyt c in the presence of SDS” – this is shown in figure S1 curve F and G. Adding SDS to purely monomeric solutions makes dimers, adding it to purely dimeric solutions makes monomers. This means we can’t clean up the figures by simply starting with a more pure solution of monomeric cyt c.
